September 2023
Hunger Action Summit
Hunger Action Summit
The Hunger Action Summit re-established our annual event that supports sharing, learning and moving to action together to serve more people and each person better through Montgomery County’s Food Safety Net System. The Hunger Action Summit was divided into two sessions with the morning session coming together to talk about strategy, network and convene since the pandemic. In the afternoon, the Hunger Action Summit was devoted to launching Hunger Action Teams on specific county-wide food security challenges that are primed for solutions.

Innovative & Just Approaches to Tackling Hunger
There are two approaches to addressing hunger: getting food to people who need it and resolving the issues that cause it. MontCo Anti-Hunger Network is developing innovative methods to connect people to food assistance who cannot access brick and mortar food pantry locations. We also acknowledge that racism is a root cause of hunger in many of our communities and the racial inequities that create and sustain hunger are unjust. The goal of this conference is to inspire new thinking and action around these approaches.

#BetterTogether
This year we tapped 548 years of combined emergency food experience among conference attendees to share great ideas and brainstorm solutions to problems encountered in the work we do. A review of MAHN’s accomplishments in 2018 and a look at hunger in Montgomery County through the eyes of Commissioners Val Arkoosh and Ken Lawrence rounded out a day of focus on how we have the greatest impact when we pull together.

Raise Your Voice
MAHN's third Annual Conference put a spotlight on advocacy. The voices and stories of service providers and clients are tools we need to cultivate to protect our programs and the well being of the people we serve. We cannot expect elected official to support us if we don't tell them about what's happening in our communities.
Conference keynote speaker, Jeremy Everett from the Texas Hunger Initiative, shared his own stories of success as a reminder to recognize and celebrate all even our smallest advocacy victories .
