Food Distribution
Increasing Access to Emergency Food Pilot Project
January 2019 MAHN was awarded a HealthSpark Foundation Innovation Lab Grant to explore methods that extend the reach of food pantries beyond visits made to their brick and mortar locations. The primary focus of this grant is online food ordering. MAHN Retail Food Rescue Program May 2018 - December 2018 MAHN captured and distributed more than 48,000 lbs. of retail grocer product to fifteen food pantries in the startup phase of its food rescue program. With the help of a refrigerated van awarded by Philabundance, our door to door service relieves the food pantry of all transportation and donor relationship responsibilities typically associated with food rescue. The program is expected to generate more than 100,000 lbs. of nutritious product for Montgomery County's emergency food system per year. Redistribution Organization June 2016 - June 2018 More than 221,000 lbs. of fresh produce was shared among seven Pottstown area food pantries in the county's first RDO managed by Pottstown Cluster of Religious Communities. The partnership allows contract members to share food coming through Philabundance programs. Produce Hubs August 2016 - June 2018 More than 314,000 lbs. of fresh produce was distributed to Lansdale and Glenside area food pantries at weekly bulk produce distribution locations which MAHN helped Philabundance establish. Grocers Against Hunger 2013 – 2016 MAHN developed relationships generated a 70% increase in the quantity of food donated to Montgomery County pantries through this Philabundance retail food rescue program.
